| General der Infanterie Paul Ludwig Hans von Beneckendorff und von Hindenburg (Oct. 2nd 1847 - April 8th.1934), became commander of the 8th German army on august 20th 1914. He replaced von Prittwitz, who had been dismissed as he suggested a withdravel behind the river Vistula. |  |
